Abstract
Composite materials based on polycaprolactone reinforced with long glass fibres were prepared by using two processing technologies: continuous melt impregnation (extrusion/calendering) and film stacking. The effect of processing variables on the impregnation of glass fibres was studied, modelled and correlated to the mechanical properties of the composites. Materials prepared by using the calendering technology showed different mechanical properties depending on melt temperature, roll temperature and the speed of rotation. The fibre impregnation obtained by using the film stacking process was correlated to the moulding temperature and to the viscosity of the polymeric matrix.
