Abstract
The electro-oxidation of amoxicillin (AC) on a copper electrode in alkaline
solution (0.1M NaOH) has been studied by the methods of cyclic voltammetry,
differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and chronoamperometry. It has been found that in
the course of an anodic potential sweep the electro-oxidation of ACd
-2 (dissociated form
of AC) follows the formation of CuIII and catalysed by species through a mediated
electron transfer mechanism. The process is diffusion controlled and the current-time
responses follow Cottrellian behavior. The rate constant and anodic transfer coefficient
is reported. Also It has been described the determination of AC in pharmaceutical
formulation by using DPV detection. The detection limit is 1.2 ?M (S/N=3) by DPV.
The analytical utility of this electrode is simple also it was achieved by analyzing the
content of AC in different drug samples with out pretreatment using DPV technique.
