Abstract
This paper describes the principles, the current technology and the applications of HPLC and tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS–MS) in the analysis of veterinary drug residues. Since the development of commercial atmospheric pressure interfaces, capable of coupling HPLC to mass spectrometer, LC–MS–MS has become widely used as a complementary technique to GC–MS in residue analysis because of its applicability to the determination of polar and/or non-volatile compounds without derivatization. This technique includes electrospray and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization.
