Abstract
Data is presented showing that molecules with identical or nearly identical fluorescence spectra (isochromatic) can be distinguished based on their fluorescence polarization in surfactant solutions. In this report, the steady-state fluorescence polarizations of a series of xanthene dyes (fluorescein (FLR), rhodamine 123 hydrate (R123H), rhodamine B, rhodamine B isocyanate and rhodamine 6G (R6G)) were measured in surfactant solutions consisting of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and Triton X100 (TX-100). Fluorophores exhibited different steady-state polarizations based on their affinities for the micellar environment.
