Abstract
A high-temperature fibre-testing apparatus has been designed. It is dedicated to the determination of various properties at very high temperatures, including electrical conductivity, Youngʹs modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, strength. Test temperatures as high as 3000 °C can be applied to carbon fibres. Two types of carbon fibres (a PAN-based and a Rayon-based fibre) have been investigated at temperatures up to 2000 °C. The measured properties are discussed with respect to microstructural features.
