Abstract
Polyelectrolyte carbon nanotube solutions are spontaneously obtained upon the dissolution of alkali metal nanotube salts in polar organic solvents. Air exposure followed by hydrochloric acid treatment restores the neutral pristine state of the nanotubes. Spinning of the polyelectrolyte nanotube solutions into polyvinylalcohol solutions produces composite carbon nanotube/polyvinylalcohol fibres, the properties of which are compared to those of fibres obtained from sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous dispersions.
