Abstract
Low-dimensional quantum structures are ideally suited for exploring device applications. We present a few examples for applications involving infrared light, especially in the spectrum region where existing devices have been difficult. We briefly discuss the potential of the quantum dot infrared photodetector. To extend the capability of the standard quantum well infrared photodetector, we demonstrate the dual band operation of an InGaAs/InP structure for both near and middle infrared spectra. To achieve very long-wavelength emission, we report on preliminary results of a quantum fountain laser operating at View the MathML source and 80 K.
