Electron–phonon induced pairing and its limits for superconducting systems

The role of electron–phonon induced pairing is discussed with emphasis on its successes and failures when used within conventional theoretical frameworks/approaches to explain the existence of superconductivity. A historical background will be given followed by examples of applications for specific material systems using recent theoretical methods. A broad range of superconductors will be considered including the systems based on Fe.
