Abstract
Excitation of the A 3IIi state of ND in solid krypton results at temperatures ⩾ 8 K in an efficient nonradiative relaxation cascade via the singlet states, populating eventually the v″ = 5 X 3Σ− level. Subsequent relaxation is partially radiative, due to the inefficient nonradiative vibrational relaxation (v = 1 X 3Σ−, ρ = 210 ms), and the 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1, 1-0 infrared emission bands are observed. The emission structure suggests a relatively free rotation in annealed matrices, but is indicative of defect and impurity induced barriers to rotation in freshly deposited samples.
