Abstract
The analysis of cesium dimer molecular emission bands previously observed by Klyucharev and Lazarenko, and thought to be formed through resonant energy transfer from excited state cesium (6P) at densities exceeding 1015 cm−3, suggests that they result from a resonance Raman scattering process. Numerical simulation based on the application of a resonance Raman scattering model readily reproduces the observed emission and suggests a cesium dimer linewidth near 8 cm−1. This result compares favorably with the observations of excited state sodium atom-sodium dimer interactions which also result in observed features in the vicinity of the Na D-line due to a Raman-like scattering process.
