Abstract
This paper first analyzes how the welding environment impacts on the welding process and quality, and how alteration of the wire extension can be adapted to the welding conditions. Subsequently, a method is put forward to ensure the arc length remains constant by shortening and lengthening the wire extension. The length of the wire extension is under control of the wire feed rate. The formula for the wire melting rate is proportional to the wire extension change. The formula is verified by experiments, and can be widely applied to theoretical research.
