Abstract
Co-mingled yarns were processed with polypropylene filament wrapping on the linen yarn, plain weave fabrics were woven with the produced yarn. Laminated fabric was fabricated into composites by using the heat press technique.
The fibre volume fraction of the final laminates could be adjusted in the yarn making process. Fabrics with three different linen fibre volume fraction were woven and corresponding laminates were made. The tensile tenacity testing of the materials showed that the linen fibre volume fraction and the bending behaviour of the yarn in the fabric during interlacing played important role in determining the tensile strength. The elongation at break of the laminates was measured both warpwise and weftwise, the elongation behaviour difference in the two directions is contributed to the bending attitude of the warp and weft yarns during weaving
