  • Abstract
This paper examines the tensile fracture behavior of 2124Al–10 vol.% SiCp composites by generating the fracture data from the tensile as well as compact tension specimens. The composites were produced through squeeze casting process. For matrix strengthening and improving ductility, the specimens were heat-treated through solutionizing and ageing. The modified inherent flaw model is utilized for fracture strength evaluation. Fracture strength estimations are found to be in good agreement with test results. The modified relationship between the notched strength and the inherent flaw length will be useful for accurate prediction of the notched tensile strength of composite laminates.
