    Condensation of salicylaldehyde and its derivatives with various esters of chloroacetic acids in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) leads to the synthesis of benzo[b]furans by a solventless phase-transfer catalytic (PTC) reaction under microwave irradiation.
