  • Abstract
    The radical-mediated hydroxyalkylation of α,β-unsaturated esters with alkyl iodides, trialkylborane, water and KF in THF gave the corresponding α-hydroxy esters. The synthetic advantage of the method was demonstrated by a short-step total synthesis of (±)-tanikolide.
