Abstract
A concise synthesis of spirofuranopyrimidines is described and relies on the addition of isopropyl 4-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate to a pyrimidine dianion. The diol intermediate formed is subjected to cycloetherification conditions leading to an unprecedented heterocyclic template.
