Abstract
Polyphenylene oxide-derived carbon membranes in this study were prepared by (a) coating the macroporous tubular alumina ceramic membranes, (b) carbonization at 700EC and (c) air oxidation as an additional step. In order to investigate the oxidation effect on the permeation performances, the oxidized carbon membranes were prepared under different oxidation conditions. It was shown in the permeation results that the enlargement of the membrane pore occurred with increasing oxidation temperature. Also, oxidation enlarged the membrane pore in the oxidized carbon membranes over time. It was shown in the results that permeation properties can be increased by different oxidation conditions.
