Abstract
The electron cyclotron maser is a fascinating example of basic physics applied to a practical device. It uses relativistic electron dynamics and radiation processes to produce coherent millimeter and submillimeter radiation at unprecedented power levels. This review examines both the theory of electron cyclotron maser processes and their applications to real situations.
