Abstract
Routing strategies have a key role on communication and performance of the on-chip interconnection networks. Typically, each routing technique can be divided in two parts: output selection and input selection. Several efforts have been done attempting to improve output selection part. But this paper focuses on the improvement of input selection part and investigation of its impact on routers, routing algorithms and NoC performance. In this paper two simple yet effective priority-based input selection techniques are presented and evaluated which are based on CAIS technique. In these schemes each switch select one of the input channels with highest priority. The priority is calculated as runtime. Simulation results with different traffic patterns show that these new techniques can achieve better performance than the FCFS, Round-Robin and CAIS input selections in different situations.
