Abstract
The anisotropy in diametrical tensile strength of die compacted powders is examined in four different materials. In ductile powders, it is shown that the strength in the radial direction is higher than in the compaction direction. This difference is attributed mainly to the morphology of the deformed powder particles in the compact. In brittle powders, the opposite behavior is observed and is attributed to the fragmentation of the powder particles during compaction.
