Synthesis of constant-breadth cam mechanisms

The synthesis and analysis of constant-breadth cam mechanisms with oscillating or translating flat-faced followers are examined in detail. The equations of the cam contour are derived. It is shown that when the motion curve in the rise is chosen arbitrarily by the designer, the motion curve in the return can be derived accordingly avoiding the occurrence of any impulse throughout the whole cycle.
