Research initiatives for the forging industry

The North American forging industry faces considerable challenges as the globalization of the economy continues to increase. Competition to this industry comes from two primary areas: competing processes and materials and the highly competitive global industry. In order for the forging industry to remain viable and successful, there is a need for a comprehensive approach, through alliances, to support and address the research and development programs for reducing costs and lead times and increasing material utilization. This paper will discuss a small number of the research initiatives and suggest the methodology to be used in establishing a collaborative alliance in support of a broad research agenda.
