Prototype of an expert system for selection of coatings for metals

The paper presents a project dedicated to development of an expert system prototype for selection of the appropriate coating type and its technology, depending on the intended application and working conditions. A number of crucial factors are taken into account, like intensity of use, coated element shape, required colour and shine, roughness, cost and others. Final selection of the candidate coating is carried out using the weighted total taking into account the important coating feature values and their relevant weights, reflecting their importance for coating selection. The expert system prototype was developed using Exsys Professional shell.
