Abstract
A major fraction of charged particles produced in heavy-ion collisions in the ALICE experiment can be identified using the Time of Flight technique. Due to the very high multiplicity of produced particles, the array has to be highly segmented. The multigap resistive plate chamber is a device that offers exceptional time resolution and easy segmentation at a reasonable price.
