The Future at GSI and FAIR Original Research Article

The future perspectives for hadron and nuclear matter physics at the approved international accelerator facility FAIR near Darmstadt, Germany will be discussed, and recent achievements of research activities at GSI, the site of the new facility, presented. Emphasis is put on the synergy effect of bringing together collaborations working in different fields of nuclear and hadron physics at a unique accelerator facility.
