Abstract
The electrooxidation of 3-[1-(2-aminophenylimino)-ethyl]-6-methylpyran-2,4-dione schiff base in acidic aqueous solution containing 1.0 M H2SO4 leads to a polymer film on platinum electrode. The electrooxidative polymerization process was studied by sweep potential electrolysis, controlled potential electrolysis and scanning electron micrographs. The film shows reversible, well-defined redox systems in aqueous solutions only. The factors affected the electroactivity of the film such as scan repetition, the quantity of charge used during the film formation and scan rate were studied in detail. The modified electrode was found to catalyze the electrooxidation of hydroquinone. Comparative study between the stability, rate growth and polymerization yield for the films prepared in acetonitrile and aqueous acidic solutions was carried out.
