Abstract
A numerical approach of the rupture phenomenon in metallic bodies under low dynamic loading is presented in order to develop a numerical prediction tool. The implementation of an elastoplastic behaviour and the introduction of a new rupture criterion by means of the bifurcation equilibrium theory in a finite-element code (ABAQUS/Explicit) are the two major parts of this work. Numerical and experimental results (rupture-limit velocity and fracture location) are compared for the rupture of a steering knuckle.
