Abstract
We describe a parallelized, adaptive algorithm for multiphase flow in general geometries. Phase boundaries are considered sharp and their motion is computed using the coupled level set/volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method. General geometries are represented using a “Cartesian grid” approach; not a body-fitted approach. Our algorithm is designed to be “robust”; in other words we compute flows in which phase boundaries and geometry boundaries can be very complex with very little user intervention. In this paper we study the speed-up gained via adaptive mesh refinement, and/or parallelization.
