  • Abstract
With the new design of a parallel-plate channel to ice melting in cool-thermal discharge systems with external refluxes, the relationship of mass airflow rate, ice melting thickness and the total amount of cool-thermal discharge flux with time has been investigated theoretically to obtain a pre-determined outlet chilled air temperature under the various inlet ambient air temperatures. Numerical examples have been illustrated in which either the inlet or outlet air temperature was specified, and the results of cool-thermal discharge fluxes have been also discussed. The theoretical result shows that the recycle effect and melt removal can enhance the heat transfer rate, and thus the lower outlet chilled air temperature is achieved. A comparison was made between both devices with single side and double sides heated under complete melt removal and external refluxes of the same working dimension in cool-thermal discharge systems.
