Abstract
This paper reflects on the early history of the
International Society for Education through Art
and the ambitious mission of the founders. An
evaluation will be made of the present strengths of
the Society and of some persistent weaknesses,
some of which have plagued the organisation from
its inception. Finally, the emerging possibilities
presented by new technologies and increasing
globalisation will be considered as a means
of more effectively achieving InSEA’s principal
objectives of fostering international co-operation
and facilitating association on a world-wide basis
of all those concerned with education through
art. This paper is a revised version of a lecture
presented at the 30th World Congress of InSEA
held in Brisbane, Australia in September 1999.
