Abstract
In order to study the influence of nitrogen alloying on corrosion resistance of weathering steel, electrochemical tests were carried out in Solartron (1287+1260) electrochemical work station. Firstly, polarization curves were obtained by using potentiodynamic scanning method with scanning range of −0.3V∼0.5V (SCE). After nitrogen alloying, E0 of weathering steel varied scarcely but I0 decreased and RP increased remarkably. Secondly, alternating current impedance tests on coupons were carried out with frequency range of 106Hz∼10−2Hz. According to the analysis from Z-View software, equivalent circuits have been solved. From experimental phenomena, a conclusion could be drawn that rust layer of nitrogen alloyed weathering steel was more compact and effective than that of traditional weathering steel, so the corrosion resistance of nitrogen alloyed weathering steel increased.
