  • Abstract
    The interaction of a perylene derivative namely N,N-bis(2,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-3,4:9,10-perylenebis(dicarboximide) (DBPI) with colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was studied in ethanol and ethylene glycol using steady state fluorescence quenching measurements. The Stern–Volmer quenching rate constant (Ksv) was calculated as 4.03×109 and 29.14×109 M−1 in ethanol and ethylene glycol, respectively. From fluorescence quenching data, static quenching and energy transfer play a major role in the fluorescence quenching of DBPI by AgNPs. The apparent association constant (kapp) was calculated as 1.26×108 M−1 in EtOH and 1.83×109 M−1 in ethylene glycol. Due to potential AgNPs interaction with DBPI, the average AgNPs size is increased slightly from ~37.1 nm (As-prepared) to 48.9 nm.
