Measurements of thickness and adhesive properties of electrostatic powder coatings for standard and modified powder coating guns

Measurements have been performed with different electrostatic powder coating systems to measure the electrostatic charging processes. The measurements consist of spraying a fixed mass of powder through a powder gun and then analysing the powder coating to determine the optimum parameters. The techniques, which are presented, include (i) the absolute determination of the charge/mass ratio for a tribo gun, (ii) the analysis of a powder deposition on a metalised glass substrate to determine the powder thickness and the adhesion of the powder to the substrate for standard and modified powder coating guns.
