Abstract
Layered manganese oxide displays a number of insertion properties of interest in the areas of materials applications. Inorganic organic composites have been prepared by ion-exchange with long-chain alkylamines and a novel thermally induced phase transition is described. Delamination of alkylamine-expanded birnessite occurs in non-polar liquids and can be restacked in the presence of anilinium chloride. The electrochemical performance of stacked birnessite–graphite oxide has been compared to that of non-modified birnessite. The specific capacitance reaches a promising value, >130 F/g, that is maintained on cycling.
