Administration of branched-chain amino acids to standardbred horses in training

  • Author/Authors

Eight adult trotter horses (three to six years) were randomly divided in two groups of four animals (two male and two female per group)، نويسنده , , named EXP and CTR. Horses were adapted to a fixed dietary regime before undergoing a performance test (TEST 1) on a circular track. The performance tests consisted of about 15 minutes of warm-up (five laps، نويسنده , , 280–300 meter/minute) and four consecutive heats of 1000 meters at incremental speeds of 7.1، نويسنده , , 8.0، نويسنده , , 9.1 and 10.5 m/sec. Blood was sampled before the test، نويسنده , , at the end of each heat and 45 minutes after the end of the fourth heat. During the following four weeks، نويسنده , , the EXP group، نويسنده , , but not the CTR group، نويسنده , , was supplemented with a mixture BCAA (9.0g L-leucine، نويسنده , , 4.5g isoleucine and 4.5g L-valine) one hour before training. At the end of the 4-week period all horses were retested (TEST 2). Plasma lactate، نويسنده , , glucose، نويسنده , , allantoin، نويسنده , , BCAA did not affect plasma lactate، نويسنده , , glucose، نويسنده , , allantoin and pyruvate concentration.، نويسنده ,
