Sorting stallion spermatozoa for the purpose of separating X- and Y-bearing spermatozoal populations has had significant advances in the past 10 years. However, current technology requires that the mare be close to the laboratory processing the semen. The development of procedures to cool and freeze sex-sorted sperm will be critical if this technology is to be embraced by the equine industry worldwide.
