Langmuir–Blodgett films of the endohedral metallofullerene Dy@C82 at the air–water interface

Multilayer Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films of the endohedral metallofullerene Dy@C82 were constructed for the first time at the air–water interface. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy of these films revealed short-range ordered metallofullerene assemblies as well as layered structures. Individual metallofullerenes appeared intact after being transferred from the air–water interface. Blue-shifted UV–vis absorption peaks were observed and attributed to the partial oxidation of the metallofullerene balls.
