Transition metal complexes of 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl isocyanide and 1H,1H-perfluorooctyl isocyanide

1H,1H-Perfluorooctyl isocyanide (2) has been synthesized in two steps. The mononuclear complexes (CO)5Cr(CNCH2R) (3) (a, R=CF3; b, R=C7F15), fac-(CO)3M(CNCH2R)3 (4) (a, M=Mo, R=CF3; b, M=W, R=CF3; c, M=W, R=C7F15), Cp*Mn(CO)2(CNCH2CF3) (5), ClAuCNCH2CF3 (6), have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic methods. To study the tendency of F3CCH2NC to act as a bridging ligand Cp*2M2(CO)2(μ2-η2-CNCH2CF3) (7) and [Cp*M(CO)2(CNCH2CF3)]2 (8) (a, M=Mo; b, M=W) have been synthesized. The crystal and molecular structures of 4b, 6 and 8a have been elucidated by X-ray crystallography.
