Severe accident mitigation concept of the EPR

For the EPR great emphasis is laid to gain further improvement in prevention of severe accidents. Nevertheless an additional level of safety with specific engineered safety features is introduced to cope with the potential consequences of a severe accident with an assumed core melt down. To prove and demonslrale the feasibility of these features supporting research and development are performed via close co-operations wilh nalional and European research centres. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science S.A.
