Design of the 1&C for the European pressurised water reactor

The basic design of the 1&C for the European pressurised water reactor (EPR) will establish the basis for a preliminary safety assessment, and a cost/feasibility evaluation. In order to avoid a premature link to a rapidly ageing technology, the design aims as far as possible lo establish product independent requirements, open to off-the-shelf equipment and thus benefiting from the latest progress in 1&C technology in the moment of plant erection. The EPR 1&C design team comprising the active participation of designers and utilities, leads to optimal integration of feedback of experience from running plants and other design projects. © 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
