Abstract
Crystalline oriented titania (anatase) thick films have been fabricated by electrophoretic deposition in a strong 12 T magnetic field. Anatase particles in an aqueous suspension are rotated due to their magnetic anisotropy and then deposited on a substrate in a dc electric field. The angle between the directions of the magnetic and electric fields φB–E is fixed at specified angles (φB–E = 0, 30, 60 and 90°) during the deposition to control the dominant crystalline orientation of the deposits. The crystalline orientation characterized by the X-ray diffraction for the anatase films proves the orientation dependence of anatase upon the φB–E angle during the EPD. The crystalline orientation of the anatase films can be controlled by varying the angle of E versus B.
