Abstract
The early research on regular graphs of the two French mathematicians Georges Brunei (1856-1900) and André Sainte-Laguë (1882-1950) is discussed. Brunei developed early graph terminology and started the French “applied” approach towards graph theory. Sainte-Laguë published the zeroth book on graph theory in 1926, ten years earlier than the first book by König.
