Abstract
Drilling rotation problem may arise if the Mindlin–Reissner plate theory is adopted to develop the semi-analytical finite strip method for the analysis of thin-walled sections. Through the introduction of a fictitious in-plane shear strain in the standard deformation–displacement relation of the Mindlin–Reissner plate theory, a drilling rotation is added. This strategy is applied for 2-nodal, 3-nodal and 4-nodal line strips in dealing with buckling problems of thin-walled sections. Numerical results show the potential of the proposed technique.
