Abstract
This paper presents some interesting texture and microstructure modifications that are associated with primary recrystallization in an ODS FeAl alloy. The development of the microstructure during primary recrystallization appears to be significantly influenced by the alignment of the oxide particles in the as-extruded starting material and, depending on the initial amount of strain, the microstructure is elongated or equiaxed. This has a strong effect on the thermal stability of the microstructure and its modification under subsequent competitive grain growth. Secondary recrystallization takes place for the elongated microstructure leading to the formation of a 〈111〉 fibre texture while the equiaxed microstructure is far more stable. The mechanisms responsible for the microstructure and texture modifications are discussed and the potential interest of such thermomechanical treatment is outlined.
