Abstract
NiTi shape memory alloy particles were prepared in molten (NaCl+KCl) salts in the temperature range from 680 to 800 °C. NiTi particles of 100 nm to several microns in diameter were obtained and reversible martensitic transformation was confirmed in these particles. The synthesis temperature and the ingredients of (Ni+Ti) powder had no significant influence on the particle size, morphology or the martensitic transformation characteristics. The ball milling time of (Ni+Ti) powders prior to the chemical reaction in molten salts, and the holding time in the molten salts had a significant influence on the martensitic transformation characteristics of the obtained NiTi particles.
