  • Abstract
Structural and devitrification behaviours of selected Mg-based, Cu-based and Al-based amorphous alloys have been investigated for the amorphous ribbon and mixtures of amorphous ribbons fabricated by repeated forced cold rolling. When amorphous ribbons were subjected to cold rolling up to a thickness reduction ratio of ∼40%, the heat of crystallization (ΔHx) showed a reduction of ∼10% for the ribbons of the Mg–Cu–Gd and Al–Cu–Gd ternary systems. When the mixture of amorphous Al-based alloy ribbons and Mg alloy ribbons were cold-rolled, the ΔHx was decreased and modified, compared with the individually processed single ribbons. Also, peak shifts and/or peak shape changes were observed for the two deformed amorphous ribbons, possibly reflected by an inter-reaction between two amorphous alloys. The effect of cold rolling on single and multiple amorphous alloys on devitrification behaviours has been discussed in terms of thermal analyses and microstructural observations.
