Conformal Deformation of Noncompact Surfaces with Negative Curvature

We study the problem of prescribing the curvature on an open Riemann surface of finite topological type, with either negative Euler characteristic, or with an hyperbolic end, when the prescribed curvature function is not everywhere negative.
