Abstract
In 1995, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) implemented a new ranking system for sites to assign a level of risk and associated cleanup recommendations. This ranking system, which scores sites based on 15 ranking score parameters, is one way in which TDEC is using riskbased corrective action (RBCA). University of Tennessee researchers are following the reported costs of managing a group of 341 sites and examining the impact of these parameters, particularly the coefficient of permeability, on determining the risk and the recommended cleanup method for the site. Also, the writers assess RBCAʹs overall contribution to cost reduction of underground site management.
