Abstract
We use independent matrices to inductively construct a dense subset, Y, of N∗. The space N ∪ Y has a compactification in which no infinite subset of N is C∗-embedded. This is then used to answer a question of Finn, Martinez, and McGovern on the cardinality of C∗-embedded cellular families of open sets.
