Abstract
In this paper we use a recently discovered spectral sequence, which calculates the homology of the image of certain finite continuous maps, to study first the Euler characteristic of the images of such maps and then the homology. In particular we examine the case where the self-intersection set of the map is one-dimensional and use this to study the topology of the tangent developable of a space curve.
